Description
Positions operate heavy construction and engineering vehicles consisting of, but not limited to: road graders; front-end loaders; bulldozers; backhoes; agricultural tractors; excavators; sweepers; mobile cranes; rig loads; snow and ice control equipment; snow plows; chemical spreaders; snow blowers; and dump tracks
- Performs snow clearance, maintains roads and parking lots at CFB Borden and existing gravel roads, clears drainage areas, lift heavy objects with cranes or fork trucks
- Loads/uploads/ties down heavy equipment on tractor-trailer units
- Ensures all safety equipment required is available and serviceable. Performs general vehicle maintenance including visual inspections, lubrication, parts replacements as required
- Washing and cleaning of vehicles and regular work areas and performs daily vehicle inspections to maintain optimum performance
- Maintains trip tickets, operator logs and conveyance documents as required
- 12 hour shifts on rotating schedules (days and nights), November to April exact dates TBD
Skills Required
In order to be considered, your application must clearly explain how you meet the following:
ESSENTIAL QUALIFICATIONS:
- Possession of a valid unrestricted Class 3 (DZ in Ontario) Driver’s License with air brake endorsement valid in the province of work
- At least two years’ experience within the past five years in the operation of a variety of heavy equipment, including but not limited to:
Dump Truck, Front End Loader, Bulldozer, Backhoe, Excavator or Grader
ASSET EDUCATION:
- High school diploma from a Canadian province, or;
- Vocational diploma in heavy equipment operation or the equivalent from any province
ASSET EXPERIENCE:
- Experience in industrial snow-clearing
- Experience working in snow and ice control operations
- Experience in road maintenance
- Experience maintaining unpaved surfaces
- Experience performing operator inspections and daily maintenance on a variety of heavy equipment
- Experience in maintaining driver logs, defect sheets and other applicable documentation
- Experience working or volunteering in a mixed military/civilian environment

OPERATIONAL REQUIREMENTS:
- Willingness to obtain and retain a DND 404 driver’s license
- Overtime may be required
- Shift work may be required
- Callbacks may be required
- Willing and able to work evenings, nights and weekends
- Willing and able to travel, work overtime if required.
- Must wear personal protective equipment (PPE) as required
CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT:
-Reliability Status security clearance
- Possession of a valid DZ Driver’s License without restrictions from the province of Ontario or other provincial or territorial equivalent
- Must be able and available to work shift work, weekends, overtime, and stand by as required and sometimes on short notice
- Eligibility and willingness to obtain and maintain a valid departmental driver’s licenses (DND 404)
- Able to safely perform a variety of physically demanding tasks including lifting up to 30 kg, climbing ladders, working on uneven
surfaces, and sitting for periods of 4-5 hours on a daily basis
- Current and up-to-date driver's abstract from the candidate's provincial transportation authority showing evidence of a satisfactory
and safe driving record for the last three years.
