Description
General fabricating/welding services for equipment and vehicles used by the department as follows:
•Performs metal/tungsten inert gas (MIG,TIG), Arc (shielded and metal),Oxy-acetylene and plasma welding and cutting of ferrous and non-ferrous metals
•Performs sheet metal layout manufacturing and fabrication
•Determines the requirement for Non Destructive Testing (NDT) of equipment
•Maintains, modifies, reconditions and manufactures parts and components for vehicles and equipment as required
•Performs minor autobody repairs by panel adjustment, replacing parts and areas of repair
•Performs and is responsible for quality control and welding shop products and repairs
•Inspects, assesses and develops solutions to facilitate repairs
•Organizes and maintains the welding and metals section area of responsibility
•Resources and provides supervisor within formation required to order parts, materials and equipment
•Designs, develops, constructs and reproduces prototype mechanisms, parts and equipment, patterns, jigs and fixtures and tools
•Instructs new personnel and trades helpers as required

ESSENTIAL QUALIFICATIONS
OFFICIAL LANGUAGES:
English essential
OCCUPATIONAL CERTIFICATION:
Depending on the position to be staffed, one or more of the following may be required:
: Possession of an Interprovincial Red Seal Welder Certificate or a Canadian Welding Bureau Ticket in either 1F, 2F or 3F
positions
: Completion of DP2 Materials Technician Journeyman competency code ALGN, MITE Code 120874 or equivalent
: Possession of a valid Class “G” driver’s license without restrictions issued by the Province of Ontario or other provincial
equivalent
EXPERIENCE:
Depending on the position to be staffed, one or more of the following may be required:
: Acceptable experience in the welding field with experience in shielded metal arc welding, gas metal arc welding, and gas
tungsten arc welding.
: Acceptable experience in metal fabrication
: Experience in application of welding theory
: Experience in the operation of equipment associated with the welding trade
ABILITIES:
: Ability to accurately interpret blueprints and technical manuals and to recognize symbols pertaining to the trade
: Ability to make sketches and to perform mathematical calculations required to complete the manufacturing of items
: Ability to perform welding, soldering and brazing by using shop equipment including Oxy-Acetylene, Shielded Metal, Arc, TIG,
MIG and Plasma Arc welding and cutting on ferrous and non-ferrous metals
: Ability to communicate effectively in writing

ASSET QUALIFICATIONS
: Experience using Microsoft Office software
: Experience using an SAP based program

OPERATIONAL REQUIREMENTS:
: May be required to work overtime
: May be required to work weekends and evenings
: May be required to work standby recovery duties on a rotating basis
: May be required to travel

CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT:

• Requirement to obtain and maintain ‘Reliability Status’ security clearance
• Must maintain a valid Class “G” license without restrictions issued by the Province of Ontario or other provincial
equivalent
• Eligibility and requirement to obtain and maintain a DND Driver’s Licence (DND 404)
• Ability to safely perform a variety of physically demanding tasks including lifting up to 35 lbs.
• Adherence to the DND and CF Code of Values and Ethics
• Must be able to wear Personal Protective Equipment as required
• Will be required to complete periodic departmental and trade training and/or upgrading
