Description
We are seeking a compassionate, skilled, and dependable Youth Worker to support children and adolescents in a residential group home setting. The Youth Worker plays a critical role in ensuring the safety, stability, and emotional well-being of youth, many of whom have experienced trauma, complex needs, or involvement with the child welfare system.
This role requires strong judgment, consistency, and the ability to build meaningful relationships while maintaining clear professional boundaries.
Key Responsibilities:
Youth Care & Supervision
· Provide supervision and support to youth in care in accordance with individualized plans of care
· Maintain line-of-sight supervision where required and ensure youth safety at all times
· Support youth with daily living activities (hygiene, meals, routines, school readiness)
· Model appropriate behavior, communication, and conflict resolution
Trauma-Informed Support
· Apply trauma-informed, strength-based approaches in all interactions
· Recognize triggers and implement de-escalation strategies to prevent crises
· Support youth in developing emotional regulation and coping skills
· Maintain a calm, non-judgmental, and structured environment
Behaviour Management
· Implement behavior support plans and safety plans consistently
· Respond to incidents using approved crisis intervention techniques
· Document and report incidents in line with agency and regulatory requirements
· Support youth in understanding consequences and making positive choices
Program Implementation
· Facilitate structured daily programming, including life skills, recreation, and community engagement
· Support educational goals, including school attendance and homework completion
· Encourage participation in pro-social and culturally appropriate activities
Documentation & Communication
· Complete accurate and timely documentation, including daily logs, incident reports, and shift summaries
· Communicate effectively with supervisors, team members, and external stakeholders (e.g., CAS workers, therapists, schools)
· Participate in team meetings, case conferences, and training sessions
Safety & Compliance
· Follow all policies, procedures, and legislative requirements (CYFSA, MCCSS, QAM standards)
· Conduct regular safety checks of the environment
· Ensure proper medication handling and documentation (if applicable)
· Adhere to duty to report obligations at all times
Working Conditions
· Shift work including days, evenings, overnight (awake), weekends, and holidays
· Physically and emotionally demanding role requiring active supervision and engagement
· Must be able to respond to crisis situations safely and effectively

Skills Required
Qualifications
· Diploma or degree in Child and Youth Care, Social Service Work, or related field
· Minimum 1–2 years experience working with youth in care, high-risk youth, or similar settings
· Strong understanding of trauma, mental health, and behavioural challenges
· Valid CPR/First Aid Certification
· Training in Crisis Intervention / De-escalation (e.g., CPI, UMAB or equivalent)
· Valid Vulnerable Sector Check
· Valid Driver’s License (G or G2 preferred)
