Equipment Operator/Labourer

The Township of Adjala-Tosorontio is located north of the GTA, at the southwest border of Simcoe County with a population of 11,000 residents and offers rural living with proximity to urban amenities.

The Township is seeking full-time, permanent Equipment Operator/Labourers within the Public Works department.

Reporting to the Public Works Team Leader, the Equipment Operator will be responsible for operating equipment and machinery and performing labour for the maintenance and construction of municipality’s roadways, facilities, and parks and capital works in a safe and customer-focused manner while in compliance with applicable legislation and Township standards.

• Minimum 2 years related experience in municipal operations related to core municipal infrastructure (ie roads, bridges, culverts, etc) as well as heavy/construction equipment including but not limited to graders, backhoes, loaders, excavator considered an asset
• Minimum 2 seasons of winter control experience with plowing of municipal roads; experience operating a standard transmission truck equipped with front plow and side wing preferred
• Completion of TJ Mahoney Construction & Maintenance modules considered an asset
• Completion of Snow School from Ontario Good Roads Association an asset
• Demonstrated knowledge of relevant legislation OHSA & Regulations, Book 7, Highway Traffic Act, and Minimum Maintenance Standards, etc
• Demonstrated mechanical skills
• Ability to work independently with minimal supervision and effectively in a team environment
• Demonstrated knowledge of occupational hazards and safety precautions applicable to the working environment and ability to meet physical demands of the position and working in adverse conditions
• Provide satisfactory Criminal Record Check
• Valid Class DZ Driver’s Licence with clean driver’s abstract
• On-call response time within 30 minutes to Township’s Public Works Yard located in Loretto
• Must be available to work nights, weekends, holidays, overtime as needed
