Description
Springwater Township Public Library (STPL) is an award-winning library with three branches (Elmvale, Midhurst, and Minesing) in the Township of Springwater, in the centre of Simcoe County. Springwater is a mix of rural and urban areas with a population of approximately 23,000 residents. The Library prides itself on offering outstanding customer service while providing information and entertainment to Springwater residents. Our physical branches offer a wide range of materials and programs and our robust digital branch consists of our website, social media platforms, online resources, e-books, and virtual programs.
STPL is excited to add the part-time position of Community Librarian to our staff complement. As the Community Librarian, you will enable Springwater Township Public Library to respond to the community’s needs for information, resources, and entertainment, both within the branches and within the community. You are responsible for coordinating all community outreach. Your work will engage community partners, groups, individuals and organizations and all residents to fully participate in the community. This position will allow the Library to creatively respond to the community, ensuring that STPL meets our community’s needs. This position will align with STPL’s strategic values, work with all programming, marketing, and technical staff to ensure consistency and adherence to STPL’s values and policy.
Responsibilities primarily consist of but are not limited to those below:
- Coordinates outreach for all ages and demographics.
- Collaborates with the Children and Youth Librarian and Manager of Public Services on outreach, community programs and community partnerships as needed.
- Coordinates and implements outreach campaigns to businesses and organizations within the Library catchment area.
- Brings forward opportunities to the Management Team to ensure that community outreach meets the needs of a growing diverse community.
- Researches best practices for outreach and community work in public libraries. Identifies community needs, trends and demographics, and develops a community engagement strategy.
- Prepares grant applications and fundraising opportunities under Library Management direction for library needs and services.
- Prepares reports as directed for the CEO and Management Team.
- Promotes library programs and services through community outreach and presentations.
- Provides readers’ advisory, reference, library orientation, patron guidance, research support and membership transactions.
- Attends meetings and participating in professional library organizations.
- Models and provides service excellence in all interactions with the public.
- Communicates effectively with a variety of diverse audiences and individuals, in person and digitally.
Qualifications and Experience
As the Community Librarian, you will hold a Master’s of Library and Information Science or a Master’s of Community Engagement degree from an accredited university along with a minimum of three years of experience in a public library. Experience in Community Relations, Indigenous Relations, Social Work, Anti-Racism Initiatives or Newcomers is an asset.
To succeed in this position, you will be self-motivated and able to work with minimal supervision, be an effective communicator, maintain discretion and a high degree of professionalism, and be passionate about providing library services to the community.
Rate of Pay
The rate of pay for this position is $37.06 – $43.36 per hour (2026 rate) as per the Collective Agreement, with the option to participate in the OMERS pension plan.
Hours of Work
This is a part-time position with 20 hours per week, evenings and weekends are required. Work schedule is variable depending on outreach events and meetings. Travel between all branches is required.
