POSITION SUMMARY

Job duties as part of a commercial fence and deck construction team

KEY AREAS OF RESPONSIBILITY

CONSTRUCTION FENCES AND DECKS

  • Construction of various fence types using wood, metal and composite products
  • Operation of construction equipment and tools (if the individual has required training and experience)
  • Load truck on a daily basis with materials required
  • Work in an efficient and organized manner to achieve superior results
  • Make sure worksite is kept in a safe and tidy manner at all times
  • Ensure that job site clean-up is completed at the end of each shift
  • Assist with clean-up of equipment, company vehicles, and supplies at the shop
  • Coordinate tasks according to priorities and plans Supervise the use of machinery and equipment
  • Resolve problems when they arise
  • Report on progress to managers, engineers etc.
  • Ensure manpower and resources are adequate
  • Supervise and train workers and tradespeople

REQUIREMENTS

  • Review job file and all drawings to ensure that the project requirements are clear
  • Proven experience as a construction foreman
  • In-depth knowledge of construction procedures, equipment, and OSH guidelines
  • Understanding of electrical and hydraulic systems
  • Ability to read drawings, plans and blueprints
  • Excellent organizational and leadership skills
  • Ability to communicate and report effectively
  • Aptitude in math
  • Problem-solving abilities
  • Good physical condition and stamina
  • High school diploma, diploma in a skilled trade or related work experience

EQUIPMENT AND TOOLS

  • Assist with the safekeeping and maintenance of all tools assigned to crew on a daily basis
  • Report any broken tools or replacements/new tools required

REPORTING DUTIES

  • Report any unsafe work conditions to the owner

OTHER DUTIES

  • Organizing tools, equipment, machinery, and materials.
  • Supervising construction activities.
  • Identifying materials and equipment that may be required.
  • Ensuring construction is carried out accurately, following plans and specifications.
  • Ability to work to tight deadlines ensuring that tasks are completed to the required quality standards.
  • Taking responsibility for health and safety on site.
  • Training employees.
  • Maintaining detailed and accurate job reports.
  • Good communication and team working skills.
  • The ability to build relationships across a wide range of professionals.
  • A thorough understanding of the architectural drawings.
  • Attend to weekly foremen meetings
  • Work in a safe manner at all times
  • Assist with other work if required
  • Knowledge of Worker Health & Safety Responsibilities and familiarity with health and safety responsibilities of supervisors and employers as outlined in the Occupational Health & Safety Act.

POSITION DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES ARE NOT STATIC AND TASKS MAY BE CHANGED, ADDED OR BECOME REDUNDANT AT THE DISCRETION OF MANAGEMENT.

Skills Required

ESSENTIAL QUALIFICATIONS

3 years of previous related experience preferred in carpentry.
Valid G class drivers’ license; D Licence an asset.
Must have own transportation to and from the shop.
Completion of high school preferred.
High degree of work ethic.
Discretion, integrity, and confidentiality are key.
Basic knowledge of measuring, loading/unloading, power, and construction tools.
Must own CSA steel-toed work boots, company uniform provided (shirts & hard hat)
Previous experience in the construction industry is appreciated, but not mandatory.
