Do you want to make a difference? Learning Disabilities Association of York-Simcoe (LDAYS) is currently looking for councilors who will help youth with learning disabilities improve their social skills in our March Break camp. The mission of the program is to help youth overcome difficulties associated with ADHD and learning disabilities through play-based education. The Opportunity. Under guidance from LDAYS, facilitators will assess youth profiles, identify their needs, and create strategies to help youth grow in social settings.

Primary Objective:
Responsible for the planning and facilitation of the Social Skills program sessions and/or camps to
children and youth with Learning Disabilities
Responsibilities:
● Deliver overall program plan, including lesson plans, goals and outcomes, to participants aged 7-12 with learning disabilities and/or ADHD.
● Facilitate activities in discussions, arts & crafts, sports, drama, games, etc.
● Encourage and develop participant’s social skills strategies using various activities and resources that will be provided.
● Provide participants with an environment that fosters positive self-esteem and self-confidence, which in turn will enable the participants to make and keep friends.
● Conduct discussions and activities on topics such as confidence, positive self-esteem and making friends using the program material that is provided.
● Nurture and develop all participants' potential skills, abilities and motivate children for success.
● Communicate regularly with participants and parents to monitor progress.
● Supervise and promote safety, respect, and inclusiveness amongst all participants.
● Lead participants in special events, swimming trips and outdoor activities.
● Participate in training sessions as required.
● Develop and maintain a knowledge base of Learning Disabilities and ADHD.
This contract starts on March 16th for the week. 8:30am to 4:30pm for a total of 35 hours for the week up to 40 if needed and it is running at the Morgan Russell Memorial Centre & Arena Hall
Commitment and Location:
Camp will run Monday through Friday from 8:30am to 4:30pm at the Morgan Russell Memorial Centre & Arena Hall in Lefroy, Innisfil

Skills Required
Qualifications:
Education: Recreation and Leisure, Social Service Worker, Social Work, Child Development, Child and
Youth Worker Or relevant experience.
Experience: Experience working with the public
Enjoys working with children with special needs
Previously related job experience is an asset
Certifications: CPR and First Aid assets
Vulnerable Sector Screening Check Required
