With a current population of approximately 24,000 and approximately 400 kilometers of road, The Township of Essa is in the heart of the County of Simcoe and southwest of the City of Barrie. Essa Township’s Public Works Department is accepting applications for the vacant contract positions if Labourer.

Reporting to the Assistant Roads Supervisor and/or Roads Supervisor, the Labourer is responsible for a variety of construction, maintenance and repair services for Township roads. The position is based on a 40-hour work week. Candidates must be able to operate a variety of light equipment, as well as possibly: front-end loader, dozer, tractor-backhoe, tandem dump trucks, and other specialized equipment, and carry out manual labour requiring articulate physical dexterity for construction and maintenance efforts of the department.

Key Qualifications:

• Possess a valid Driver’s License in good standing. Class “D” or higher with Z air brake endorsement.
• Have 1-3 years’ experience operating construction equipment: front-end loader, dozer, tractor-backhoe, tandem dump trucks.
• Have knowledge of the Occupational Health & Safety Act.
• • Ability to operate and maintain a variety of manual and power equipment.

Compensation for this position is $26.03 - $30.61/hr (2026), 40 hours per week. No benefits will be offered. The incumbent will be required to supply their own safety boots (CSA approved). Must be able to provide us with a clean driver’s abstract.
