Description

Location: Barrie, ON (with travel to Midland and Orillia locations)
Salary: $65,000 per year
Schedule: Monday to Friday, 7:00 AM to 5:00 PM (flexibility required based on operational needs and site visits)
Position Overview
We are seeking a knowledgeable and proactive Health & Safety Specialist to join Georgian Waste Services. This role will be responsible for reviewing, developing, and maintaining health and safety programs, policies, and procedures to ensure compliance with Ontario Ministry of Labour requirements and applicable workplace legislation.
The successful candidate will work closely with management and employees across multiple locations to promote a strong safety culture, identify areas for improvement, and implement best practices in workplace health and safety.
Key Responsibilities
  • Conduct a comprehensive review of existing health and safety policies, procedures, and programs.
  • Update and enhance health and safety documentation to ensure compliance with Ontario Ministry of Labour regulations and applicable legislation.
  • Identify gaps in current safety practices and recommend corrective actions.
  • Perform workplace inspections, audits, and risk assessments.
  • Provide guidance and support to managers and employees on health and safety matters.
  • Assist with incident investigations and recommend preventive measures.
  • Maintain accurate health and safety records and documentation.
  • Support the development and delivery of health and safety training programs.
  • Travel to company locations in Midland and Orillia as required.
Qualifications
  • Previous experience in a Health & Safety role.
  • Strong understanding of Ontario health and safety legislation and Ministry of Labour requirements.
  • Experience working directly with Ministry of Labour standards, inspections, or compliance initiatives.
  • Excellent organizational and time-management skills.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities.
  • Valid driver's license and reliable transportation to travel between company locations (orillia, midland, utopia)

Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook)
Multi-site coordination and site inspection experience
Valid driver's licence and ability to travel between locations
